What advice would you offer to healthcare leaders when choosing among vendors?  

For IT solutions, healthcare leaders want to choose vendors who will operate like true strategic partners and who can demonstrate success in achieving short implementation timelines, high ROI and a well-rounded support model. Look for partners with deep experience in both the technology and practical application of the product. Focus on partners that are teaching you things you didn’t know during initial interviews and demos. That’s a good sign they will have the experience you need. Also, scrutinize project timelines before committing to a partner. Ask lots of questions, and don’t stop asking questions until you are satisfied that the partner has experience with your data and infrastructure. Finally, look for a cultural fit. You want a partner that will be with you over the long term, meet your organization where it is today and grow with you over time.  

What is some advice you can give providers for a successful implementation of a new product or service?  

Text BoxFirst, let the partner organization guide the technical process as much as possible. They have done this many times before and know what works. For IT solutions, there is usually a strict sequence of steps that leads to successful implementation. Support those steps by making sure internal resources are ready to assist as needed. Second, make sure that you have internal buy-in from all stakeholders on the project. Many implementations slow down when the partner must “resell” the project to individuals or teams that were not aware of the project. Third, no two organizations are the same. When it comes to rollout strategy, listen to leading practices from the partner, but ensure the approach fits your organization’s culture and objectives. We truly view ourselves as partners with the organizations we serve. We succeed when they succeed.
