Maryland Chapter member Liz Sweeney retired in 2018 as managing director at S&P Global Ratings in New York where she focused on credit ratings and credit ratings methodologies for 26 years. Her career experience brought her three new professional roles.
1. Joined the board of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) in Baltimore.
Sweeney was recently appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to the board of the UMMS, a healthcare system with 13 hospitals and a $4.5 billion annual revenue.
2. Founded an independent consulting company, Nutshell Associates LLC in Baltimore.
“In a nutshell (pun intended!), we reduce the anxiety by helping debt issuers prepare for confident rating agency and investor interactions and to maintain healthy relationships going forward,” she said.
3. Became an adjunct faculty member at her alma mater Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, serving as executive in residence for Government, Nonprofit and Healthcare Finance.
Sweeney will help students develop skills, networks and career interests within public finance.
Outside of work, she enjoys exercising, vegetable gardening, video editing and walking her dog with her husband and their two teenagers.

Jessica Yard, MBA, the secretary of HFMA McMahon-Illini Chapter earned her Master of Business Administration in less than one year from Louisiana State University, Shreveport, Louisiana. She works full-time as a system director for Hospital Sisters Health System in Springfield, Illinois.

Katie Tarr, CVA, FHFMA, was recently promoted from senior manager to partner at LBMC in Nashville.
North Carolina Chapter’s President-elect receives promotion
Cameron Thomason, MBA, was recently promoted from director of strategy to assistant vice president, strategy for the Atlantic Division of Laboratory Corporation of America in Burlington, North Carolina.
