Two HFMA members were recently named women of the year by the Northern California Chapter. The awards, which comprise two categories and are selected by an independent, non-HFMA review committee, were presented May 10 at the Chapter’s 11th Annual Women’s Conference.

Kristina Bouyea

The Emerging Leader: Woman of the Year Award was presented to Kristina Bouyea, government revenue cycle supervisor at Montage Health Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula in Monterey, Calif. Bouyea was recognized for her efforts to develop future leaders, mentor peers and give back to both the healthcare sector and the local community.

“Receiving this award is truly an honor and a blessing,” said Bouyea. “Independence and strength have always been important goals in my life. Successful women need to persevere by not allowing others to distract their motivation or denounce their standards. Leadership can be enriched by inspiring people to believe in the impossible and lifting others.”

Cynthia Low Johnson

Cynthia Low Johnson, FHFMA, received the Legacy Leader: Woman of the Year Award. Johnson, senior director of referrals and claims administration for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, was recognized for her exceptional contributions over the course of her 45-year career and for her leadership in healthcare and healthcare finance.

“What an honor it is to be recognized as the 2024 Northern California HFMA Legacy Woman of the Year,” said Johnson. “[It is] especially humbling to be nominated by my leadership team and to be selected from among such accomplished and talented healthcare finance legends. I am forever grateful for the learnings, connections and lifelong friends I’ve gained through HFMA.”
