A new year. A fresh start. A set of blank pages. How will the pages of health care get written in the next months? And what will they say? It’s really up to us.
There’s no doubt, we’ve got plenty of material with which to work. From MACRA to a new administration to more Medicare changes to uncertainty about the future of “Obamacare,” the new year brings new challenges
and new opportunities. The good news is we possess what has kept us strong and resilient each and every year regardless of the issues faced—we have ourselves, our resolve, our resiliency, and our desire to thrive.
My challenge to all of us has been to move beyond just surviving to consistently thriving. And I have been witness to the wonders of collaboration, strong relationships, and the desire to do the right thing. Again and again, I have seen the various players in the healthcare ecosystem move to the middle—the middle being “what is best for the patient.” As a result, we’ve seen fabulous clinical outcomes, solid financial performance, and improved patient experiences.
This is a great start, and I think we can go even further as we write the book of 2017. My wish is that it will contain some of the chapters shown below.
The ability to write this best-seller is ours. Let’s make sure it’s a good one. So grab a pen (OK, the keyboard!), and make it happen. You are a leader in health care, no matter what your role. And you can shape the future by leading the change, keeping the patient in the forefront of your thinking, going beyond the conventions of today, and being the role model of a thriving healthcare finance professional. Thrive On!
