HFMA recognized by multiple organizations for exceptional education, editorial and website

The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has recently received numerous awards for an innovative educational program, editorial content and its high-quality website.

CAHME honors Boise State and HFMA for innovative healthcare leadership program
Boise State University and HFMA were awarded the 2023 CAHME/George and Regi Herzlinger Innovation Education Award for their Master in Population and Health Systems Management (MPHSM) program, according to a news release by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).
“We are honored to be recognized with Boise State University by CAHME as the 2023 recipient of the George and Regi Herzlinger Innovation Education Award for the MPSHM program,” said Todd Nelson, FHFMA, MBA, HFMA director, partnership relationships and chief partnership executive, in a news release. “This degree is an industry game-changer because it addresses contemporary needs in healthcare education through the lens of population health, risk mitigation and finance. Our students graduate with the skills needed to help shape a new era in healthcare.”
The program explores the relationship between epidemiology and actuarial science in the context of population health and is designed to bridge the gaps between the clinical, operational and financial segments of the healthcare industry, according to the release. The program includes four industry-recognized healthcare finance certificates offered through HFMA:
- Certified Financial Healthcare Professional (CHFP)
- Certified Specialist Business Intelligence (CSBI)
- Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR)
- Certified Specialist Accounting & Finance (CSAF)
The Neil Awards and ASBPE laud HFMA’s editorial excellence
HFMA has received 19 awards of excellence for various editorial pieces produced and published in 2023.
The recognized pieces include:
- 16 awards for stories published in hfm, HFMA’s flagship magazine (see link above for details)
- Two for online-only reports in the Association’s Healthcare 2030 series: Health vs. care and Value-based care?
- One for an HFMA Voices in Healthcare Finance podcast episode “Sleepless in the
C-Suite-Part 2”
Among the awards are:
- Six national – including two gold – and 11 regional Azbee Awards of Excellence conferred by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE)
- Two entries named as finalists in the Jesse H. Neal Awards, which recognize excellence in business-to-business (B2B) journalism

Brad Dennison, hfm executive editor and HFMA director of editorial and policy affairs, shared kudos in the hfm article too.

HFMA earns Swaay.Health Website of the Year Award
Swaay.Health presented HFMA with its Website of the Year Award in the Association/Non-Profit category at the Swaay.Health Live event in Atlanta held May 5-7.
“This award is given to the best website based on ease of navigation, visual appeal, mobile experience and quality of content,” according to the awards page of Swaay.Health, a publication and community dedicated to healthcare marketers.
“I was thrilled to accept the Website of the Year award on behalf of HFMA and our strategic and development partner, 10up,” said Greg Akroyd, HFMA’s director of marketing. “Thanks to everyone involved in contributing to our website, and special thanks to my colleagues Brad Dennison, director of editorial and policy affairs, Jean Alcantra, manager, user experience, and Jason Muhammad, manager of application development and information technology, who worked alongside me with 10up.”
