Chapter History
Fifteen charter members petitioned and were granted status as the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the American Association of Hospital Accountants in 1953. Officers who were instrumental in founding the new Chapter were:

Joseph W. Rossler – Secretary
Mildred C. Neidecker – Treasurer
Several Important Milestones & Achievements Over the Years:
1953 – The Northwest Ohio Chapter of the American Association of Hospital Accounts was established.
1962 – W. E. Culbertson receives first William G. Follmer Award earned by a Chapter member.
1966 – 1967 – The Chapter tackles the re-education program caused by the inception of the Medicare program.
1968 – The organization name, American Association of Hospital Accountants, changed to Hospital Financial Management Association.
1971 – Qualified for Graham L. Davis Club for the first time. Chapter name incorporated “Northwest Ohio.”
1973 – Joseph W. Rossler becomes the first Chapter life member.
1974 – William R. Plassman becomes the first member to receive the Robert H. Reeves Award.
1978 – Silver Anniversary Year.
1979 – John Marsh receives Life Membership status.
1981 – Chapter received a special medallion in recognition of 10 consecutive years in the GLD club.
1982 – National name change to Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
1983 – 30th Anniversary Year.
1984 – Chapter earns the Graham L. Davis award in the Mehler League under the direction of President Mel Fultz. The Northwest Ohio Chapter declared has having the best membership service plan in the Mehler League. The new format of the Chapter newsletter received an honorable mention in the Mehler League competition. Arlyn Bensch becomes the first member to receive the Joseph W. Rossler Award for outstanding membership service to the Chapter.
1985 – The Chapter earns the Graham L. Davis award for the second time under the leadership of President William C. Waters. The Chapter Task Force receives national recognition as Outstanding Task Force.
1986 – Northwest Ohio Chapter has the best membership service plan in the Mehler League. Tom Lang earns the Frederick T. Muncie Award. Tom Lang and Don Phillips are co-winners of the Joseph W. Rossler Award.
1987 – W.E. Culbertson receives Life Membership status.
1988 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives honorable mention for Service Plan.
1989 –Northwest Ohio Chapter receives Chapter Achievement Award.
1990 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives Chapter Achievement Award.
1991 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives Honorable Mention for Outstanding Achievement for the Medicare Wage Index Project. Chapter wins Most Improved Chapter Award. F. Leroy Parks, Thomas B. Lang, and David T. Ragan receive Life Membership Status. Robert Meyer and Michael Leslie receive the Joseph W. Rossler Award.
1992 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives Chapter Achievement Award. Wins Honorable Mention for Service Plan and Task Force Project.
1993 – The Chapter earns the Graham L. Davis Award for the third time under the leadership of President Donald G. Phillips. The Chapter Task Force receives national recognition as Outstanding Task Force. The Chapter receives Honorable Mention for Service Plan. Jane Friesner and David Neuendorf receive the Joseph W. Rossler Award.
1994 – William Waters is initial receipient of Medal of Honor Award. Northwest Ohio Chapter receives Chapter Achievement Award. Beth Hickman receives Joseph W. Rossler Award.
1995 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives national recognition for Outstanding Achievement on Task Force and Newsletter.
1998 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the C. Henry Hottum Bronze Award for Educational Performance Improvement.
1999 – Nada Grim and Barb Swartz receive the Joseph W. Rossler Award.
2000 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the C. Henry Hottum Silver Award for Educational Performance Improvement.
2001 – Michael Fultz and Michael Miesle receive Life Membership status. The Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the C. Henry Hottum Bronze Award for Excellence for Certification and another Henry Hottum Bronze Award for Excellence for Membership Growth.
2002 – Don Phillips is the second member to receive the Medal of Honor Award. The Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the Bronze Award of Excellence for Certification.
2003 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the Gold Award of Excellence for Certification, the Gold Award of Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention, and the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement.
2004 – Northwest Ohio Chapter celebrates its 50th Anniversary. Garth Beatty and Paul Douglas are awarded chapter life membership. Beth Hickman becomes the third chapter member to be presented with the Medal of Honor Award. The Chapter receives is second consecutive C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement and the Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Award for Newsletter Improvements.
2005 – Alan Ganci becomes the fourth chapter member to be presented with the Medal of Honor Award. The Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the Silver Award of Excellence for Certification, the Gold Award for Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention, the Gold Award of Excellence for New Member Retention, and the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement.
2006 – Dave Wilson becomes the fifth chapter member to be presented with the Medal of Honor Award. Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the Silver Award of Excellence for New Member Retention.
2007 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the Silver Award of Excellence for Certification.
2008 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement and a perfect 100% on the inaugural Chapter Balanced Score Card (CBSC) from National.
2009 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the Gold Award of Excellence for Certification, the Silver Award of Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention, the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement, and its second consecutive 100% on the CBSC.
2010 – Northwest Ohio Chapter receives the Bronze Award for Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention, the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement, and its third consecutive 100% on the CBSC.
