President’s Welcome

When I was asked to write a Welcome Message for our Chapter web site, I thought, “Perfect, because ‘welcome’ is exactly what I want everyone to feel when they think of our Chapter.”

At my first Massachusetts-Rhode Island HFMA event, I happened to sit down next to a friendly gentleman who worked at Boston Children’s Hospital. Upon learning I had an autistic son who had visited Children’s a number of times for various tests to make sure he was healthy, this kind man proceeded to ask me several questions about my son and in the process, revealed a true interest in the human beings in his organization’s care. I asked him, “What exactly do you do at Children’s?” He responded that he was the CFO. I knew immediately that that he, HFMA, and our Chapter were all special. 

Seventeen years later, that feeling has never left me.  As President, I feel it is my duty to make sure everyone feels as welcome as I did at that first meeting. 

So I offer two invitations to all. First, I invite you all to become more involved with HFMA. Our Chapter provides a plethora of ways to do just that:

• In-person educational events: with dates planned for October, December, January, and April, these events make up the backbone of our Chapter year.
• Social and networking events: beginning with our annual golf tournament in August and concluding with our Annual Chapter Celebration and Awards Dinner in May plus another four planned social events, these provide a great way to meet other Chapter members and get to know one another.
• Webinars: kicking off with our compliance webinar in July, we are planning a total of five webinars this year.
• Committees: our Chapter has eleven committees that are always looking for new members.
• Chapter Blog: last, but by no means least, our Chapter Blog is a tremendous resource to keep up with all our Chapter is doing and is a great place for you to share a brief article about an area that interests you.

If you choose to get more involved, I promise you it will be one of the best decisions you will ever make.

Second, I invite all our members and sponsors to please reach out to me to tell me what I can personally do help you feel welcome in our Chapter. The Massachusetts-Rhode Island Chapter of HFMA is a fantastic organization that has the power to change your life if you let it.
