HFMA member spotlight: Salem Alasmari’s Ministry of Health work focuses on KSA Transformation 2030

HFMA recently spoke with new international member Salem Alasmari, PhD, CPHQ, PMP, who is with the Ministry of Health Saudi Arabia, about his work related to the country’s 2030 Transformation goals.

HFMA: Please describe your current position and job role?

Salem Alasmari: Since January of 2021, I have worked as the assistant director general for planning and transformation at the Aseer Regional Health Directorate, Ministry of Health, Saudi Arabia. My main responsibilities are to help set long- and short-term plans for the organization, work with concerned authorities to create professional development plans for health practitioners, and to oversee the implementation of healthcare transformation at the directorate.  

As I continue to improve my financial skills and increase my knowledge through HFMA’s Business of Healthcare certification and its Certified Specialist in Accounting and Finance certification. I will be more prepared for the new era of healthcare in my country. This new era will focus on financial sustainability, value-based care, efficiency, and quality of care.

HFMA: What is your greatest passion related to your work?

Alasmari: My passion stems from my involvement in the healthcare transformation program in Saudi Arabia. The Health Sector Transformation Program aims to reconstruct the healthcare system in the country to be more comprehensive, effective, and integrated, encompassing the individual and society.

The program depends on the principle of value-based care, which ensures transparency and financial sustainability by promoting public health and preventing diseases. This program also seeks to improve access to health services through optimal coverage and a comprehensive and equitable geographic distribution. This will expand the provisions of e-health services and digital solutions, as well as improve the quality of health services.
