The sixth biennial HFMA Tri-State Fall Institute & Vendor Show attracted a record attendance of nearly 350 people from HFMA Chapters Indiana, Southwest Ohio, Kentucky and Central Ohio. The event was held Sept. 11-13, 2019 at the Belterra Resort and Casino in Florence, Indiana.
John Ziegler, vice president of sales and patient experience improvement at Ambassador Software Works and president of the Central Ohio HFMA Chapter believes the number of attendees was the highest it has ever been for two reasons:
- HFMA members found value in the simple-to-understand event theme, Sharpen, Expand and Lead. They understood attendance could sharpen job skills, expand their knowledge and lead organizations to the next level of greatness via the leadership sessions.
- Targeted marketing messages and social media posts from each of the four Chapters engaged members’ interest in the event.
Tri-State 2019 kicked off Sept. 11 with social events, including playing golf or attending a paint and sip event. Attendees regrouped later for a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres gathering under the stars of the casino’s paddleboat rooftop.
HFMA President and CEO Joe Fifer opened the show Sept. 12 with his presentation, Strategies for Transforming the Business of Healthcare, which included information on value-based payment research and trends, industry consolidation and consumerism and how these trends can improve value for consumers and other healthcare purchasers.
One of the highlights of the third and final day of the show was a keynote presentation by national speaker, Janet Smith Meeks, MBA, BBA, former hospital president and author of Gracious Leadership: Lead Like You’ve Never Led Before, which was also the title of her presentation.
The day ended with a presentation from Leavitt Partners’ Chief Research Officer David Muhlestein, PhD, JD, who presented Bringing Value into Focus: The Future of American Healthcare?
“These multi-Chapter events are the best way to leverage talent, resources and ideas to deliver superior programs, expand your network and exponentially increase fun,” said Ziegler.
Cheers to Pat Kosar’s Retirement
Chapter Relations Specialist Patricia Kosar officially retired Nov. 1 with more than 10 years at HFMA. Her responsibilities included helping many of HFMA’s Chapter leaders and editing Leadership Connection, formerly Notes from National, said Director Chapter Relations Tracy Packingham.
“It’s been exciting to see how HFMA has changed over the 11 years I have worked here,” said Kosar. “One thing that hasn’t changed is the value of personal connections. It is HFMA’s secret sauce. I have worked with hundreds of Chapter leaders during my time at HFMA and was both humbled and awed by their passion for the Association. I’ve watched them grow as leaders and lift each other up professionally and personally. It truly is like family and although I look forward to spending more time with my grandchildren and traveling, I will miss my HFMA family.”
