2020 Board of Directors Election Is Now Open

The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the opening of the election for the Association’s 2020-21 Board of Directors. This election will fill Board positions for Chair-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and three Directors. The slate of candidates for the 2020-21 Board of Directors follows. 

Chair-Elect & Secretary/Treasurer

In accordance with Article V, Section 1, of the HFMA Bylaws, the HFMA Board of Directors has nominated the following persons to serve one year in the offices listed beginning June 1, 2020, and ending May 31, 2021: 

  • Chair-Elect:  Aaron R. Crane, FHFMA, CPA, MHA
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Dennis E. Dahlen, CHFP, CPA

The Board of Directors recommends that you vote in favor of Mr. Crane and Mr. Dahlen (see their bios below).

Note: Tammie L. Galindez, FHFMA, MHA currently Chair-Elect, will succeed to the office of Chair of the Board on June 1, 2020. Ms. Galindez is Vice President, Go-to-Market Strategy and Sales Leadership, at TransUnion Healthcare, Chicago, Ill.

Directors

In accordance with Article VII, Section 2, of the Bylaws, the HFMA Board of Directors has nominated the following persons to serve three-year terms as directors beginning June 1, 2020, and ending May 31, 2023: 

  • Colleen M. Blye, CPA
  • Maureen A. Clancy, FACHE, CPC
  • Matthew E. Cox, CHFP, CPA

The Board of Directors recommends that you vote in favor of Ms. Blye, Ms. Clancy and Mr. Cox (see their bios below).

Election results will be announced after the April 27, 2020, Board of Directors Annual Meeting and after the HFMA Board of Directors has notified the candidates.

Voting members of record on January 1, 2020, have the right to one vote. Please refer to the March 2, 2020 email sent by Joseph J. Fifer, FHFMA, CPA, or submit your proxy via fax to (708) 531-0032. Members are encouraged to vote electronically.

Candidate biographies

Aaron R. Crane, FHFMA, CPA, MHA
Aaron R. Crane, FHFMA, CPA, MHA, nominee for Chair-Elect, is Executive Vice President with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in Seattle, Wash., which is consistently named one of the top 10 hospitals for cancer care by US News and World Reports

Prior to joining Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Aaron was the CEO for Population Health Alliance of Oregon. Aaron’s involvement with HFMA includes serving on the National Board of Directors during which time he was the Regional Executive Council Chair. In addition, Aaron held various chapter leadership positions including president of the Oregon Chapter and served as a Chapter Advancement Team member.

Dennis E. Dahlen, CHFP, CPA
Dennis E. Dahlen, CHFP, CPA, nominee for Secretary/Treasurer. Dennis is the Chief Financial Officer for Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Mayo Clinic is generally recognized as the best healthcare provider in the world. With nearly $13 billion in revenue and more than 65,000 employees, it is one of the largest non-profit healthcare systems in the nation. 

Prior to joining Mayo Clinic in 2017, Dennis was SVP Finance and CFO at Banner Health in Phoenix. Dennis’ involvement with HFMA includes serving on the National Board of Directors and is a member of the Audit & Finance, Executive and Compensation Committees. 

Colleen M. Blye, CPA
Colleen M. Blye, CPA, nominee for Director. Colleen is Executive Vice President and CFO at Montefiore Medicine in New York. Montefiore is an integrated academic medical system with almost $6 billion in revenue, 10 hospitals and 3,000 employed providers.

Prior to joining Montefiore, Colleen spent more than 20 years at Catholic Health Initiatives, a national faith-based system serving in a variety of senior financial roles. She also spent 7 years in public accounting at the beginning of her career.

Colleen served on HFMA’s Principles & Practices Board.

Maureen A. Clancy, FACHE, CPC
Maureen A. Clancy, FACHE, CPC, nominee for Director.  Maureen is Senior Vice President at Privia Health in Arlington, VA responsible for operations from point of sale through successful launch and maintenance of partner care centers.  Privia Health is an investor backed physician group with operations in six states and over 2,300 providers and is a three-time MAP Award winner for high performance in revenue cycle.

After starting her career as a CPA in public accounting, Maureen accepted roles in clinical operations at Rush University Medical Center and Medstar Washington Hospital Center.  She eventually focused her skills in revenue management with Accretive Health, now R1 RCM before taking on revenue management leadership and transformation roles at Privia Health. 

Maureen served on HFMA’s National Advisory Committee and the Physician Practice Executive Committee. 

Matthew E. Cox, CHFP, CPA
Matthew E. Cox, CHFP, CPA, nominee for Director.  Matt is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Spectrum Health, a $6.5 billion not-for-profit integrated health system based in West Michigan.  Matt leads the finance team and assumes financial responsibility for all of Spectrum Health and its subsidiaries, including Spectrum Health Hospital Group, Spectrum Health Medical Group and Priority Health. 

Before joining Spectrum Health in 2017, Matt was Senior Vice President of Finance Operations at Banner Health in Phoenix.
